Building Reference Benchmark Indices for the 24/7 Era with MarketVector

Pyth Network and MarketVector Indexes have entered into a strategic partnership to deliver institutional-grade basket indices, administered as benchmarks by MarketVector, for the 24/7 markets era.

The partnership combines two complementary capabilities. Pyth contributes the underlying data, real-time pricing infrastructure, and continuous 24/7 sourcing across asset classes. MarketVector, a VanEck company and a regulated benchmark administrator with over $100 billion in assets tracking its indices, contributes index design, BMR and IOSCO-compliant methodology governance, calculation, administration, and TradFi distribution.

The first products are live today. Coinbase Derivatives launches four basket indices co-developed by Pyth and MarketVector: AI10, Defense10, China10, and Tech100.

Two Capabilities, One Framework

Pyth has built continuous pricing infrastructure across crypto, equities, metals, FX, and commodities. Single-asset and single-name indices are constructed in-house: oil, U.S. equities, gold, silver. Each is built on Pyth's first-party institutional data.

For many institutional products, data infrastructure alone is not enough. Multi-asset basket indices used by CFTC-registered exchanges, ETF issuers, and institutional asset managers often rely on established benchmark administration, methodology governance, and calculation oversight. Depending on the product and jurisdiction, benchmark methodologies may also need to align with frameworks such as the EU Benchmarks Regulation and IOSCO Principles. They also require index identifiers, calculation oversight, and distribution through TradFi data terminals.

That's not Pyth's role. It's MarketVector's.

What MarketVector Brings

MarketVector Indexes is one of the most active index providers in digital assets and thematic strategies, with assets tracking its indices surpassing $100 billion. The capabilities they bring to the partnership include:

  • BMR and IOSCO-compliant methodology governance

  • Index administration including identifiers, calculation, and TradFi data dissemination (Bloomberg, FactSet, others)

  • Hundreds of off-the-shelf indices available for white-label or light customization

  • Regulatory and benchmark-administration infrastructure used by CFTC-registered platforms, ETF issuers, and regulated funds.

  • Fast turnaround: most thematic equity baskets go from concept to live in roughly four weeks

What the Partnership Enables

The combination creates a class of products neither party could build alone:

  • Continuous 24/7 basket indices built to institutional methodology and governance standards

  • White-label branded indices for major exchanges, designed and launched in weeks

  • Multi-asset reference benchmarks suitable for derivatives, ETFs, and structured products

For exchanges and users, the proposition is straightforward. Bring the strategy, theme, or product idea. Pyth and MarketVector deliver the index, the data, the governance, and the infrastructure to launch it.

Coinbase Derivatives: The First Products

Coinbase Derivatives launches four basket indices today:

  • AI10: Exposure to the leading public companies in artificial intelligence

  • Defense10: Concentrated exposure to defense and aerospace

  • China10: Targeted exposure to Chinese equities

  • Tech100: Broad exposure to the U.S. tech sector

These are benchmark indices administered by MarketVector, designed for derivative products on a CFTC-registered exchange. The methodology, governance, and administration are MarketVector. The underlying data and continuous pricing infrastructure are Pyth. The combination is what makes the products possible.

Build Your Own

This framework is open to any exchange, platform, or issuer that wants to launch branded or custom-built basket indices. Custom and branded indices are available across thematic, multi-asset, and trending categories. Examples include thematic equity baskets, cross-asset compositions, semis and AI exposure, healthcare, prediction market reference baskets, and synthetic index strategies.

The partner contributes the strategy or thesis. MarketVector handles methodology design, calculation, and ongoing administration. Pyth handles continuous 24/7 data sourcing.
